Kufri
If you want to discover the undiscovered, come to Kufri. It is a noted summer and winter destination for thousands of visitors. Kufri is just 16 km from Shimla, but at 2622 metres in Winter, carpets Kufri with snow. It is mini hill station in itself.Kufri is famous for its wide panoramic views where deep valleys and forests rise towards the lofty Himalayas. An enjoyable walk through thick cedar woods one leads up to the mahasu peak. At Kufri, Himachal Tourism runs the Café Lalit. Kufri also house a mini zoo. From Kufri a fascinating drive leads on to Chail. 6 kms from Kufri along the Hindustan-Tibet Road is Fagu. Astride a mountain saddle it presents some breath taking scenery.                                                  if Shimla is the summer capital par excellence, Kufri is the winter sports capital; at an altitude of 2,622 metres (8,600 ft), it is ideal for skiing. The air is crisp, invigorating and the snow, warm-Kufri is agog with activity, tourists, in their thousands, have come from far and near to partake in the poetry of motion, skiing. Fun from the very beginning, the real sense of exhilaration in the joyous sport comes along with the sense of accomplishment that follows the first time one skis down a slope under total control. Then come the ethereal joys of the downhill, the exhilaration of speed and the intoxication of the control of ones nerves.
No dictionary has been able to define the joys and thrills of the game. Chambers says: "ski--a long, narrow, wooden snow shoe, and skiing--to travel on skis up and down the mountain slope"--this can hardly evoke the feeling of flying through the air as one skis down the snow-laden slope. Actually it cannot be described but only experienced. Whether, it is a sport of an end or means to an end, as in the Scandinavian countries, where toddlers learn to ski as soon as they learn to walk, cannot be argued upon.
Kufri in winter is transformed into a fairy-tale picture. With snow covering the mountains and trees. This is the season when adventure sports are in full swing, Kufri has the oldest and one of the Finest ski-slopes in the country. And the Resort has special facilities for winter sports. So what if you can't ski-you can always enjoy the thrill of tobogganing and sledging! Build a snowman. Or go tramping through the silvery forests; Just being in the snow is an exhilarating feeling. Kufri, one of the oldest places in India to be associated with skiing and the slopes are still in use during the winter. Above Kufri, the Mahasu ridge also has good slopes to offer for skiing delight. Kufri has fine slopes for beginners as well as for good skiers. It commands a panoramic view of the majestic Himalayas and perennial snows. Trekking to Mahasu peak is an exhilarating experience. It is full of ski slopes.
